  • The Power of Prayer and The Art of Positive Thinking

The Power of Prayer and The Art of Positive Thinking

Publisher: Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai Model:BK 0001348 Availability: In Stock

Seeking help from a stranger is begging; seeking help from a known person is a request and seeking help from God is prayer. In the begging, we become the object of pity. In the request, we become the object of mercy. But in prayer, we become the object of divine love. God loves those who pray to Him. No one can pray to God unless one has faith and devotion for Him. Faith and devotion are the results of one’s meritorious deeds in this or previous births. Sri Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita : “Four classes of people of virtuous deeds adore Me-the afflicted, the seeker of knowledge, the seeker of wealth and the man of knowledge”.

These are a number of editorials which appeared in the Bulletin of the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture Gol Park Kolkata. The articles all written by Swami Lokeswarananda are brief but self-contained thought-provoking and clear and precise in expression. These are brought out in this book form.

The articles cover a wide range of topics but as the readers will observe there is a unity of thought underlying them. Secular or spiritual each object is dealt with from a commonsense point of view logically and free from dogmatism. The plea that is constantly made is that man has a higher destiny which he must try to fulfill.

Professor A. L. Bashams scholarly introduction to the text gives some background and context to the work and explains how the Swamis approach follows the spirit of Swami Vivekananda’s teachings.

For the first time in history, Hinduism itself forms here the subject of generalization of a Hindu mind of the highest order. What Hinduism had needed was the organizing and consolidating of its own idea, a rock where she could lie at anchor, and an authoritative utterance in which she might recognize herself.
