About Ramakrishna Math

Ramakrishna Math is a monastic organisation. The motto of the Ramakrishna Math is: “For one’s own salvation, and for the welfare of the world”

History of Sree Ramakrishna Math, Puranattukara

In 1927, Krishna Menon, later Swami Tyageessananda, founded the Sri Ramakrishna Gurukulam at Puranattukara with two little girls belonged to the Vettuva community among the Harijans.

Our Inspiration

Our primary source of inspiration is the lives and teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda .

Our Activities

All the activities of the Math — whether it be sweeping the courtyard or educating students at a school, nursing patients in a medical facility or serving in the temple or kitchen, tending cattle or cultivating vegetables and removing weeds from vegetable and flower garden or working for the empowerment of people or reaching out to the suffering people during any calamity natural or otherwise — are considered different forms of a single act of worship. “This is the gist of all worship – to be pure and to do good to others” – Swami Vivekananda cw 3:141.

Our School

The Sree Ramakrishna Gurukula Vidyamandir School that was started in 1927 has grown into The Sri Ramakrishna Gurukula Vidyamandir Higher Secondary School.

Our Publications

We publish Ramakrishna-Sarada Devi-Vivekananda-Vedanta literature in Malayalam. The Prabudha Keralam monthly of the Ramakrishna Math in Malayalam is published from here. All these books are printed in the Prabudha Keralam Press, situated in the Math premises.

“God is everywhere but He is most manifest in man. So serve man as God. That is as good as worshipping God.”

Sri Sarada Devi

“You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”
